Wood-based insulation
27 January, 10:00-11:15 (CET)
Wood construction is seen as a prominent solution to reduce and reverse climate change as it is a way to capture and store carbon emissions long-term. But wood construction also faces many challenges. During the fifth event of the second Forestry Speed Dating series, two research projects will show their advances and results on sustainable innovations in wood-based insulation for the construction sector.
Presentations
IMIP: Innovative Modular Insulating Panels based on natural Cork and Wood
The IMIP project aims to design, validate, and implement a new green building system to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings. Its systems are based on wood and natural cork, low-cost wood-based construction systems with high performance, compatible with conventional construction systems. The IMIP systems have excellent insulation performance thanks to the combination between wood and natural cork as one of the best natural and sustainable insulation materials.
By Salvador Gilabert, Researcher & Technical Director at UPC Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
Wood Pulp Panels: Fibre panels for thermal building insulation
Wood Pulp Panels are glue-free wood fibre panels for thermal building insulation. Applicable in roof or wall insulations they are a biobased alternative to most current insulation materials and breaking ground for closed loop circular value chain applications. Wood Pulp Panels for thermal building insulation were developed by VTT for the Basajaun project by using paper pulp (CTMP) in a foam forming process.
By Antti Oksanen, Senior Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
